Izuba (Natural, Burundi)
Izuba (Natural, Burundi)
We cupped this coffee what feels like forever ago when before we moved into our current home in Bonnington in peak Scottish summer after a hot day of roasting in a dark room. With the turbulent geo-political situation keeping the world guessing, this coffee has had a longer wait on the water than expected. But the delay has been well worth it.
This is Carter’s first Burundi from the Kayanza Province, a region we love for it’s characterful, jammy naturals, balanced washed lots and more recently interesting punchy yeast inoculations and anoxic pillow fermentations. We are kicking off this debut with a classico natural from Izuba washing station.
With two full time members of staff and approx. 250 seasonal workers who live local to the station, Izuba enjoys great soils, climate for coffee production and situated beside a river providing a vital freshwater source for processing the lots. Raw Material’s involvement allow workers and farmers to be paid a third more than the national average, and over a quarter more than at other local washing stations.
Sourced through our importing partner Raw Material.
